2015 Travels – Russia

In September I went to Russia for ten days with a small group of old and new friends. I wished the itinerary had allowed for more time in Moscow – there are always so many favourite places I want to revisit – but we only had a day and a half there.  Still, it was a fascinating trip and I loved exploring the cities, churches and monasteries of Rostov, Yaroslavl and Kostroma, as well as spending time in the countryside.  It rained or was dull a lot of the time so unfortunately we didn’t experience a beautiful Indian Summer – known as ‘Women’s Summer’ or ‘Grandma’s Summer’ in Russia – though on the morning of the day we left, my friend Sarah and I walked in Gorky Park in glorious autumn sunshine.
