Olomouc

We visited several beautiful towns and cities in Moravia – Nový Jičín, Uherské Hradiště, Brno (the current capital of the region), and Olomouc, which was very impressive and full of interesting churches, museums and monuments.  I hope I’ll be able to visit again one day, in brighter weather.

The most famous monument in Olomouc is the early 18th-century Holy Trinity Column, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

I loved the variety of decoration on the outside of buildings. Some showed girls in Moravian folk dress with their elaborate big sleeves, including this one high up on top of what is now a bank.

This next building is for rent. I hope someone will take it on and restore it. You can see from what the girl is holding what sort of shop it must have been originally.
