As, like most people, I haven’t travelled abroad this year (and sorely miss it), I have been cheering myself up by looking at photos of past trips to central and eastern Europe.  I’ve shared some of my photobooks here in blogposts before – (see Russia 2019, Russia 2017, Russia 2015, Moravia 2015, Russia 1987) but not this one in its entirety – only the part covering the folk festival in Prague. We went on a river cruise along the Elbe from Magdeburg to Prague, with a few days in Berlin at the start. Here’s the book.  This was the first time I’d visited the former East Germany (DDR). I would have been fascinated to experience it before the fall of The Wall, as I had other eastern bloc countries, such as the Soviet Union, Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

I’m sorry about the lack of captions. I prefer the look of the page without them, but this is not very helpful to others when sharing these books online. I remember myself where the photos were taken (so far!)

The itinerary was: Berlin, Potsdam, Dessau, Wittenberg, Meissen, Dresden, ‘Saxon Switzerland’, (then over the border to the Czech Republic), Litoměřice and Prague.
